Weekend Explosions Damage Property

RCMP in Alexis Creek continue to investigate two separate incidents of explosions that damaged property over the weekend.

Cpl. Dave Tryeman says police are asking anyone with knowledge of someone who may have purchased a large amount of the substance tannerite to contact them.

“This substance is controlled and it’s sold at a gun shop. A person has to have a possession and acquisition license in order to buy, and it’s in certain amounts that it’s sold in at a time .”

“What we’re looking for is some information regarding somebody who maybe went repeatedly to a gun shop and was stock-piling this substance.”

Tannerite which is currently marketed as an “exploding target” is set off using a high-velocity detonator.

RCMP say a concrete outhouse at the Pollywog Rest Area on Highway 20, approximately 16 km east of Tatla Lake was damaged through an explosion on November 22.

A wooden shed at the Tatla Lake Dump Site located on the east side of Tatla Lake also sustained damage by an explosion on November 23.

RCMP, assisted by the BC RCMP Explosives Unit, RCMP National Security Unit, and North District General Investigate Services, continue to investigate.
