100 mile house fire rescue get an early morning call

100 Mile House Fire Rescue responded to a fire yesterday morning at 8:30 at the South Recreation Centre on Airport road.

Fire Chief Roger Hollander describes what they were up against.

“We were met with heavy smoke and flames showing from the inside of the mechanical and sprinkler room that they have at the rear of the building. So we made an offensive attack as we call it and we were able to suppress and extinguish the fire completely and there were no injuries to any occupants or the fire fighters”.

It’s unclear at this time how the fire started and is not considered to be suspicious.

A staff member of the South Cariboo Recreation Centre was able to make it out of the building without injury.

Hollander said damage was limited to the machinery and the room of origin.
