Williams Lake Fire Fighter Honoured

The Williams Lake Fire Department said good bye to one of their own yesterday. (July 10)

Fire Chief Des Webster says they attended a service for Chris Walker who passed away a week ago after a battle with a rare form of cancer.

Webster says it was a tough day.

“People talk about fire departments being a family and it is so true and so much more evident in instances like this when we come together for the fallen firefighter and also for the family just to show our support and our appreciation for what Chris did in the community and to let the family know that we’re always going to be here for them going forward.”

Webster says the service was held at the Elks Hall at 1 o’clock and was followed by a procession through town and then a reception back at the fire hall.

He says the full fire department was there along with 14 of their retired members as well as reps from BC Ambulance, RCMP, the sheriff’s office and Search and Rescue.

Webster says the 150-Mile Fire Department came in to help out with fire protection to allow their members to go to the ceremony.

Walker served with the department for just over 7 years.
