Quesnel Council To Clamp Down On Marijuana Dispensaries

Quesnel City Council is just saying no to marijuana dispensaries.

Mayor Bob Simpson raised the issue on behalf of the Policy and Bylaw Committee.

He says “PABCOM is recommending that we just make a statement that we will not enable any marijuana dispensaries at this time because in fact what you are enabling is an illegal activity.”

That doesn’t mean however that it is permanent however as Simpson also says “the direction to staff is to continue to monitor what’s happening with the legalization and then give us advice when we can step in and address the issue once it is a legal transactional situation.”

Simpson says the issue, as they learned at the Union of BC Municipalities convention, has become quite a mess in other areas of the province.

He says there is a big fight in Vancouver over ones that have snuck in and now they’re trying to do them by bylaw and trying to close other ones.
