Beach at Scout Island Gets Additional Sand

City trucks took to the beach at Scout Island in Williams Lake with some fresh sand.

Mayor Walt Cobb says he just got word of the news Thursday afternoon.

“You remember a couple of years ago, we put money in the budget to upgrade and do some work at Scout Island; it’s happening. With the pooper-scooper we have now, plus the new sand we’re going to have a beautiful beach there before long.”

City Director of Municipal Services Gary Muraca says 2-3 truckloads of sand were dumped onto the beach.

He says when they were demoing the beach sweeper last week, they had noticed that some of the grasses were overtaking the sand.

He says they then decided to reinstate the edge and make a clean delineation between the sand and the grass reducing tripping hazards by adding additional sand.
