Quesnel Council Talks Snow Removal In June

It may seem a little odd to be tackling this issue at a time when it is nearly 30 degrees out, but Quesnel City Council may change the way it budgets for snow removal.
Mayor Bob Simpson raised the issue at last (June 28) night’s meeting.
He says for the most part it has been under budgeted for over the past 10 years and even though there was a desire to start a reserve for snow removal there was never any money left over to do it.
Simpson says “rather than under budgeting for snow and having to take it out of our surplus which is getting tighter and tighter, we’ll come forward with a recommendation saying lets budget higher for snow, get the savings, get that into a reserve.”
Simpson says it is just a suggestion from the Finance Committee at this point and it will come forward for Council’s approval when they are working on the budget.
The snow removal budget for this past year, 2015, came in around 85 thousand dollars over budget.
