More Seniors Housing Could Be On The Way In Quesnel

Plans are in the works to convert a Quesnel motel into seniors housing.
Quesnel City Council has unanimously approved first reading to amend the zoning and Official Community Plan for this project.
The proposal is to turn the Grace Inn on Carson Avenue into 35 units,10 studio units and 25 one-bedroom units.
Staff did have once concern however.
Tanya Turner, the Director of Development Services, says while exterior elevators exist “accessibility remains a concern because 2nd story walkways will not be enclosed.”
She says the removable of snow and debris is also a concern, especially for individuals with mobility issues.
Turner says one thing that is not a concern is parking as there are 38 spaces for the 35 units.
A public consultation process will take place next month before it comes back to Council for 2nd reading in August.
