Williams Lake RCMP Detachment hires new Sergeant

The Williams Lake RCMP Detachment has a new sergeant.

Sgt. Mark Smith made the move to the Lake City from Edmonton beginning his first day on the job on June 6th.

“Having been out of B.C for 13-14 years that will be the challenge is learning the way B.C does things again; not having worked in the detachment for a few years, getting back into uniform work. I’ve been in plain clothes for quite a bit over the last few years so that will be a change too.”

Smith replaces Sgt. Rick Lebeuf who retired from the Williams detachment last fall.

He says he spent the first part of his service in Victoria and that he’s happy to be back in the province.

He’s currently in charge of taking care of the training for members of the detachment as well First Nations policing and working with Victim Services and the Safer Community Program.

“I’ve only been here three weeks, but it’s been excellent,” says Smith.

“My wife and I both really enjoy here.”
