Quesnel Council Debates Secondary Suite Issue

The always controversial issue of secondary suites came up once again at this week’s City Council meeting in Quesnel.
Council gave final approval to a suite on Nickel Ridge Avenue in Carson Subdivision.
Councillors Shushil Thapar and Ron Paull were opposed.
Paull says at the public hearing “all the presenters, both verbal and written, except the proponent of course were opposed.  One presenter, in her letter, stated that although she was opposed council would allow this rezoning in spite of the wishes of the area residents.”
Councillor Scott Elliott countered that the issues raised by those who were opposed were addressed.
He says “the proponent said contrary to all three, he will be there, there will be on site parking and the lands will be very clean and well kept.  I think we should be pushing for and listening to the people in the city that do want secondary suites throughout the whole city and that’s why i will be voting in favour of this.”
Paull felt that a salable community should be a community with a diverse range of residential zones and neighbourhoods, including single family dwellings, and not a one size fits all multi-family residential throughout.
