Kersley Celebrates Saving Their School

Elated.

That’s how Shannon Wilwand, a spokesperson for the Friends of Kersley Elementary Committee, describes how she felt when the Premier announced money to keep their school open.
She wishes it would have happened earlier but Wilwand says better late than never.
She says “we are grateful that the government has stepped up finally, we wish the School Board would have worked with us so we would have got to this point in the road sooner because i think if we all worked together it could have happened a lot faster.”
Wilwand feels their letter writing campaign and picketing paid off.
She says people throughout the province also helped to get the message across that closing rural schools is not the answer.
Wilwand says she hopes that communities, parents, the Provincial Government and local School Districts can now all work together to make public education what it should be…”a place for kids to benefit and flourish.”
