Cariboo Communities Receive Grants in Lieu of Property Taxes

The Provincial Government announced today compensation for municipal property taxes to communities throughout BC, including here in the Cariboo.

Quesnel received just under $54,000 this year.

Kari Bolton, the Director of Finance with the City of Quesnel, explains…

“We get grants in lieu from both the provincial and federal government because their properties do not pay property taxes. So instead of paying property taxes, they pay grants in lieu which is equivalent to what their properties would have to pay in property taxes.”

The City of Williams Lake received just under $57,000 and 100 Mile House gets almost $22,000 this year.
