Quesnel Board Will Apply For Rural School Funding…But !

Quesnel’s Board of Education will apply for funding to keep Kersley and Parkland elementary schools open.
However, Board Chair Tony Goulet says they want to see the actual dollar amountsĀ and make sure they get the money year after year before making a final decision on whether or not the schools will remain open or closed.
Goulet also wants to know “where was this money 6 months ago ?”
He says “the timing of this thing is horrible.Ā  I mean we have two weeks left in the school year.Ā  We’ve gone through a process where we’ve started layoffs, we’ve started amalgamating schools, we started looking at how is this going to work.
Goulet says if they had this moneyĀ prior to going through this process the Board would beĀ in a completely different boat and having a totally different conversation.
He says Trustees, who don’t want to close schools in the first place, are feeling angry and frustrated about the whole process.
Goulet even goes as far as to say they are being “thrown under the bus” and being used as “scapegoats for a political agenda.”
