Paying between the lines

Williams Lake City Council has awarded Yellowhead Pavement Marking Inc. a three year contract worth $251,439.40 for pavement marking.
While residents will have fresh lines on their roads by this June, those pavement markings will come at a higher cost than previously estimated.
Council will have to increase its’ annual pavement marking budget now at $71,000 to more than $80,000 for 2014 and continuing into 2016.
However when asked why council has decided to go over budget Mayor Kerry Cook says that the original budgeted amount was only an estimate and that the budget is not yet finalized.
Council voted against sending the contract back to the bidding stage with amendments to the contract criteria due to time constraints as well as the limited amount of applicants.
Mayor Cook also says that council would like to have a provisional budget approved in December, in order to have more time when it comes to awarding contracts for city works.
