Williams Lake RCMP Actively Targeting Traffickers of Cocaine and Methamphetamine

Williams Lake RCMP say they are actively targeting traffickers of cocaine and methamphetamine following a raid at a residence on Edwards Drive Wednesday afternoon.

Inspector Milo MacDonald says part of their attempts to improve and enhance community safety involve targeting prolific offenders, as well as individuals who are involved in organized crime.

“So as a result of that, we have acted on information that we received and we obtained a search warrant and searched a residence on Edwards Drive where several residents were found inside and a fairly large quantity of cocaine and a substance that we believe was methamphetamine were recovered.”

MacDonald says five people were taken into custody, and that police are still actively preparing an investigative report to Crown Counsel.

“We’re anticipating that there will be charges in this particular case. So this is a complex investigation…I think as well it would be worth noting that many of the people that have been involved in the most serious criminal activity in this community have actually been convicted of criminal offences and are currently serving custodial sentences in jail.”

A large amount of cash was also seized.

A lot of the issues that have been experienced in Williams Lake  over the last few years according to MacDonald are gang related and have a direct connection to the drug trade.

He says most successful drug investigations that are conducted originate from public observation and adds that there is a tremendous amount of value when people are willing to contact police.
