Electric Car Charger Station Receives Upgrade

Thompson Rivers University has upgraded its electric vehicle charger at the Williams Lake campus.

Marketing Coordinator Myrissa Krenzler says although she is not aware of any students who own an electric vehicle, there are a number of community members.

“We are actually the only charging station between Kamloops and Prince George so for people who are travelling on Highway 97, we are part of the electric highway.”

Krenzler says the upgrade provides the maximum Level 2 charge rate of 80 amps that current electric vehicles can accept.

The previously-installed charge station which will continue to provide a backup option was installed at the campus in 2013.

Electric vehicles have increased in popularity in the last few years, leading to the need for more charging stations, particularly close to highways.
