Sampling and Monitoring to Continue Throughout Winter Months

Despite below freezing temperatures and some areas having received snow on the ground, the Ministry of Environment says they will continue to take samples to determine levels of drinking water and impacts on aquatic life following the August 4th tailings pond breach.

Hubert Bunce, Acting Director of Mount Polley Operations Environmental Protection, shares the Ministry of Environment’s sampling plan for the upcoming winter months.

“There will be 5 monitoring buoys installed in Quesnel Lake to monitor the quality of Quesnel Lake water. They will stay there over all the winter period, collecting data on an ongoing basis. And as allowed by the weather and conditions, sampling will continue at various locations that do remain accessible.”

Bunce says sample results will be posted on the Ministry of Environment’s webpage on a regular basis when they return from the lab.
