The spray park in Quesnel’s Lebourdais Park will be getting a new surface in May.
City Council unanimously voted in favor of increasing the capital budget by $6,100 dollars to do the work last week.
The total cost of the project is just over $30,000Â dollars but almost half will be paid for with a grant.
Director of Public Works and Engineering Ken Coombs successfully suggested that they go with a more expensive product.
“The Supervisor of Parks researched the various products for resurfacing and concluded the best product out there was recycled rubber tire materials, similar to those used on the Correlieu running track a few years ago. The shredded rubber creates a thick, cushioned non-slip finish that is ideal for running tracks and spray parks.”
The other option was to go with asphalt emulsion with a non-slip additive.
Coombs says the current surface isn’t working because it is slippery and requires constant pressure washing and cleaning.
He says when children do fall on it the surface is also very hard to land on.
