Quesnel Moves Step Closer To Getting New Gymnastics Facility

Quesnel City Council will spend up to 80 thousand dollars to complete construction documents for a new gymnastics facility.

The 1.24 million dollar project would be constructed on the site of the soccer complex on Anderson Drive.

The vote was unanimous and is designed to help the group get funding to actually build it.

Mayor Bob Simpson says they are attempting to get it to the shovel ready stage because NDI and other potential funding partners don’t consider it a real project until then and won’t provide any money.

He says that will put them in position to possibly get 100 percent funding beyond the local taxpayers.

The 80 thousand dollars will come out of a reserve account that was established for a new gymnastics facility back in 2008.

It currently sits at 204 thousand dollars.

The idea, once a facility is built, is that gymnastics would then fall under sub regional recreation.
