Quesnel Girl Named A UNBC Valedictorian

A Quesnel girl has done her community proud.
Torrye McKenzie, who will be graduating with a Bachelor of Health Sciences in Bio medical Studies, has been selected as one of only two valedictorians at the University of Northern BC.
Torrye will give a speech during the Prince George convocation celebrations next Friday, (May 27) and yes she is a little nervous.
She says it’s kid of like getting a needle where it’s the anticipation that makes you anxious.
Torrye says she’ll be fine once the day comes.
She says she went to UNBC because she is close to her family and she could study close to home.
Torrye says the thing she will probably miss the most at the school is the people.

Garbage truck fire gets put out quickly in Quesnel, one in hospital

A garbage truck caught on fire on Larch Avenue off Highway 97 in South Quesnel. The Quesnel Fire Chief says the driver of the truck was taken to the hospital for smoke inhalation, but otherwise is okay.

BCGEU strike headed to mediation

The B.C. General Employees' Union (BCGEU) and the provincial government have agreed to enter non-binding mediation, expected to begin as soon as possible. Vince Ready and Amanda Rogers are to be the mediators facilitating the process. The BCGEU said in a statement, it's members will still maintain picket lines across the province while mediation proceeds.
