Barkerville Opens for 2016 Season

It’s pay what you can until the end of this month for the historic town of Barkerville which officially opens for the season Thursday.

James Douglas, Manager of Visitor Experiences says there’s a number of new things, along with some great old things as well.

“On May 23rd-Victoria Day, we’ll be having our 17th annual Victoria Day royal tea with our Queen Victoria at the Wake-Up Jake Restaurant, but throughout the course of the summer as well there are a couple of new displays that have opened, there’s some new educational programming.”

Douglas says the big story for them this year is that they’re not really going to close.

He says over the winter they’re going to have some limited food and beverage sales, as well as ramped up recreational activities which will incrementally increase over the next 4 years.
