New details are emerging as officials have closed Highway 1 in both directions 10km east of Savona following a vehicle incident.
A semi carrying 40,000 kg of ammonium nitrate from Alberta to the Gibraltar Mines caught on fire.
Unconfirmed reports have quoted, the driver of the semi as saying the fire may have started in the cab due to an electrical short.
Drive BC estimates the highway to reopen later tonight around 8 pm.
