Community paramedicine to expand to Chilcotin and Wells

Wells, Anahim Lake and Alexis Creek will all benefit from the province’s expanded community paramedicine program.

Wells will receive one half-time equivalent paramedic in the fall, Anahim Lake will get the same early in the new year and Alexis Creek is receiving one full-time paramedic, also early in 2017.

The plan is that the paramedics will provide basic health-care services, within their scope of practice, in partnership with local health-care providers, delivered in non-urgent settings, in patients’ homes or in the community.

The services that they will provide will include checking blood pressure, assisting with diabetic care, medication assessment, post-injury or illness evaluation and assisting with respiratory conditions.
