Regular City Council Meeting Wraps Up Before Civic Election

It was a calm evening after a heated a Committee of the Whole meeting last week.

The last regular City Council meeting under current administration got underway with Mayor Kerry Cook, and Councillors Ivan Bonnell, Geoff Bourdon, Danica Hughes, Surindorpal Rathor, and Laurie Walters. (Councillor Sue Zacharias, was not present).

The discussion was kept to a minimum from Councillors on items on the agenda with Mayor Kerry Cook giving a brief timeline of events on Dutch Point Road regarding lake access.

Councillor Surindorpal Rathor also briefly commented and remain opposed to the recommendation, which passed to close vehicular access at Dutch Road.

The City of Williams Lake will now proceed with development of a right angle parking option, and investigate improving the beach at Scout Island, boat launch area, and access to Scout Island.

Other recommendations that were approved included investigating options for signage changes for both 2nd and 3rd Avenue within the Marie Sharpe school zone and coordinating with the RCMP to address excessive speeding in all zones throughout the City.

The next regular Council meeting will take place on Dec. 2.
