Newly Elected City Council Members to Receive Pay Increase

Members of Quesnel City Council, whoever that might be after Nov. 15, will be getting a raise.

Council indemnities are going up by 1.2 percent.

Director of Finance Kari Bolton…

“So as per policy, Council indemnities for 2015 would be calculated as the Mayor at $43,177, and Council at $14,814. This would increase the budget line by approximately by $1570.”

Council policy ties any wage increases local politicians might get to whatever the Consumer Price Index is in September of that year.

It also states however that they cannot take a pay cut if that index goes down.

Councilors Ed Coleman and Shushil Thapar voted against a pay raise.

That left the vote at 5-2.
