There Is Finally An End In Site For The West Quesnel Land Stability Project

A contract has been awarded to proceed with the final piece of the West Quesnel Land Stability program.
Quesnel City Council has awarded the contract for phase two to Acres Enterprises Limited out of Kamloops for just over 4.2 million dollars plus a 12 percent contingency fund.
That work, designed to control surface water, will include the installation of a number of storm water systems.
It will also, as Councillor Scott Elliott noted, mean other new infrastructure such as roads, curbs and sidewalks on a number of major streets including Anderson, Baker, Abbott, Flamingo, Healy and Lewis in certain areas.
There will also be a new storm water treatment and infiltration area constructed near the Elks Lodge on Anderson Drive.
Director of Public Works and Infrastructure Ken Coombs noted on other benefit from this project and that is a new protected left turn lane from Lewis Drive out onto Anderson Drive.
That intersection is one of the worst in the City when it comes to accidents.
Coombs also noted that the contractor intends to hold a job fair, possibly for local owner-operators of gravel trucks and excavators, as well as for local labour.
He says that was factored into the scoring system prior to the awarding of the contract.
