North Cariboo Truck Route Back on the Drawing Board

Apparently, it’s back to the drawing board for a long-awaited truck route in the North Cariboo.

After attending a meeting in Williams Lake for input into the Province’s 10-year transportation plan, City Councillor Scott Elliot admits it feels like they are basically starting over again.

Council, in the past, has been told that there is not enough volume to warrant spending the money on a truck route but Councillor Ed Coleman says that’s not what this is about…

“That’s not the issue in Quesnel, it’s a safety issue…You can try to do your traffic survey work, but that’s not the issue. The issue is getting goods safely through the community.”

Coleman also suggested that the new Council, following the municipal election, sit down with truck drivers themselves to get their input on the alternate truck route.

He says that may give them some additional ammunition moving forward.
