Cariboo Welcomes Weather Records !

We can expect a record breaking temperature in the Cariboo today (April 18) and for some it will continue well into this week.

Lisa Coldwells, a Meteorologist with Environment Canada, says it is expected to reach 26 degrees in Quesnel which would break the old mark for April 18th of 25 degrees set way back in 1936.

Coldwells says Quesnel, because of gusting winds, will then cool down a bit on Tuesday and Wednesday so the temperatures, while still well above normal, aren’t expected to be records.

The same can’t be said for Williams Lake.

Coldwells says we start off today with a high of 24 degrees, breaking the old record of 20 from 1962, and she says the records will continue to fall in the Lake City.

The mercury is expected to hit 22 degrees tomorrow breaking the old record of 21.3 set in 2010 and on Wednesday the expected high of 25 degrees would shatter the old mark of 22.4, also set in 2010.

To put things in perspective, Coldwells says the normal high for this time of year is just 15 degrees.

She says we can blame our friend “El Nino” for the warm weather.
