Bus Shelter and Bench To Be Removed

A trial to address safety issues at the bus stop near Boitanio Park will see the removal of the bus shelter and bench following Tuesday’s night regular City Council meeting.

Mayor Walt Cobb says there’s always people hanging around the shelter harassing riders and the even the driver.

“Apparently where they transfer from one bus to another, there’s always people hanging around the shelter. There’s always issues-the bus drivers get hassled, so we’re going to do it on a trial basis and see.”

“The buses will still transfer there but there isn’t going to be a place for people to get in and out of the rain and that kind stuff, which will hopefully stop some of the people from hanging around there.”

Cobb says the bus shelter will be removed as soon as staff can get to it.

Power will also be disconnected, with staff placing signage stating “No Parking-Buses Only” and investigating painting the curbs yellow at bus stops.

The recommendation comes from the City’s General Governance Committee who had met on March 16th.
