New fire burning in the Cariboo

A new wildfire is burning in the South Cariboo.

BC Wildfire Service Fire Information Officer Emily Epp explains the situation.

“Currently BC Wildfire Service is responding to a new fire near the Bonaparte recreation site, about 15 kilometres southeast of 70 Mile House. The wildfire is approximately 20 hectares in size and is burning mainly in grassland and open forest.

Epp says 4 firefighters are on scene along along with two helicopters, we also have 10 additional firefighters and heavy equipment on the way.”

This wildfire was discovered earlier this afternoon and the cause of the fire in under investigation.
