Campfire ban lifted across Cariboo Fire Centre

Category 1 campfires are permitted again across the Cariboo.

The Cariboo Fire Centre has rescinded its ban on campfires, effective as of 12 p.m., Friday, September 26.

A Category 1 campfire is described as a fire that is 0.5 metres high by 0.5 metres wide.

The Fire Centre issued a ban back in August due to the dangers of wildfires.

Category 1 fires are permitted across the Cariboo, the Tsilhqot’in Xeni Gwet’in Declared Title Area. However, Category 2 and 3 fires remain prohibited until October 31.

The Cariboo Fire Centre says the following activities still remain prohibited as well:

  • Air curtain burners
  • Carbonizers
  • Binary exploding targets
  • Burn Barrels or Burn Cages
  • Controlled air incinerators
  • Fireworks, as defined in the Fireworks Act of B.C.
