100 Mile RCMP investigating series of break ins near the downtown

The 100 Mile House RCMP are investigating a series of break-ins they believe are related.

Sergeant Brian Lamb says the RCMP has responded to an increase in property crime in the last weeks, compared to what the detachment handled during the summer.

Six reports of break-and-enters or thefts were reported to the RCMP between September 15 and September 23. Four of which occurred on or near Dogwood Avenue.

Two residences in the 300 block of Dogwood Avenue were reported at approximately 5:00 am and 5:30 am on September 18.

Another report of a travel trailer being broken from a residence on the 100 block of Bridge Creek Place, off Dogwood Avenue, occurred on September 18 as well, and is believed to have taken place overnight.

“The specific incidents[in the Dogwood area] we feel are related due to the timeframe and method of entry,” Lamb says. “I will say that the higher property crime trend is not continuing so far this week, but it is something we’re monitoring and concerned about moving forward.”

In the incident that occurred at around 5:30 am, Police say the occupant of the home reported seeing a shadow of a person in the hall of the home. When the occupant yelled, the offender fled. A laptop is reported to have been stolen from this residence.

A battery charger and various gift cards were reported stolen from a vehicle in the incident on Bridge Creek Place.

Binoculars and food items were reported missing from the incident with the travel trailer on Dogwood Avenue.

Fuel was reported stolen from a parked vehicle on Cedar Avenue. The vehicle’s fuel tank was drilled for the fuel to be drained. Though police believe this theft occurred “sometime around September 10.”

“We are asking anyone who may have home surveillance in that area during the early hours of September 18 to review their video,” Lamb says. “If they do see anything or anyone suspicious, report that to the police so we can have a look at that surveillance.”

Two more reports of thefts and break-ins were called into the police during this time period.

One on September 22, for a residential property on the 6000 block of Houseman Road, where a residence and shed were entered, and tools were taken. Additionally, a 1999 U-Built utility trailer with BC license plate UCR89S was taken.

On September 23, a trailer was reported taken from a property on Chuckwagon Trail. The trailer is described as a black 2013 Novabus dump trailer, with BC license plate 40735K.

Neither trailer has been recovered. Lamb says these trailer thefts are not in relation to the break-ins near Dogwood Avenue.
