Gold Fish Kill Underway In Dragon Lake

Work is underway to try to knock down the population of gold fish that are in Dragon Lake.
Tracy Bond, the Executive Director of the Baker Creek Enhancement Society, says they have teamed up with Quesnel River Environmental and BC Carp Control.
Bond says they are doing something called electrofishing, which is where they put a current into the water to either stun or kill the fish.
She says the timing is right for this method as they are spawning right now in one area near the shore.
Bond says they will be back out into the open water in a few weeks.
She says the trout are not in these areas right now.
The concern with having the gold fish in Dragon Lake is that they will eventually outcompete the trout and other native species for food as they basically multiply like rabbits.
Bond says they took around 18-hundred gold fish out of the lake yesterday. (April 6)
