15 New Health Care Aide Spaces For Williams Lake TRU Campus

More seats are being made available to the health care assistant program at the Williams Lake Thompson Rivers University campus.

Dean of Nursing, Donna Murnaghan says they’re extremely excited of the 15 additional spaces which will be offered to students in 100 Mile, Barriere, Clearwater, Chase and Lillooet.

“So there’s five regional areas that we offer health assistant programs on a rotating basis as the demand occurs. This funding what we’re try to do is set up a pilot and study a distance delivery model.

The additional spaces at TRU will increase annual delivery to 99 seats in 2016-17.

Murnaghan says the demand for health care is at a high across the whole province.

“Williams Lake community have told us that they have a great need for staff. We have learned if we can get more people educated in the health care assistant program, the employers would be really happy about that.”

The scheduled start date for the 15 additional spaces , made possible through one-time funding of $150,000 form the Ministry of Advanced Education is in September 2016.
