BC Veggies up 10.2 %

Fresh Vegetable prices continue to climb in B.C.

After seeing a year over year increase of 26% in January, the latest yearly numbers beginning in February show an increase of 10.2%.

Things are getting better in western Canada.

“B.C., Saskatchewan, Alberta and Manitoba all saw their fresh vegetable prices fall on a month over month basis due to some of the stores using a reduced prices as a loss-leader to get people into the supermarket.” Stats Canada Consumer Division Analyst Ian Lippert says.

Inflation rates in B.C. also show a drop in gas prices.

It’s down 9.4% from the same time last year after being up 5.3% in January.

Fresh fruit on the Canada level sky-rocketed 14.4% in the past year while B.C. only saw a 4.6% jump during the same period.

The Consumer Price Index in the province rose slightly in February to the tune of 1.6%
