Work on one of the longest murals in the Province is underway in Williams Lake.
The 240 foot long Cariboo themed artwork is being painted on the back wall of the Cariboo Regional District building where residents of AgeCare Cariboo Place can see it from their rooms and other parts of the facility.
Six different artists will be contributing to the five different themes, two that are currently working on their contribution, Dwayne Davis and Steven Davis-Gosling.
“This year Steven and I will be working on section which is 12 by 40 feet for each section so we’ll have 80 feet done. It’s big project,” Davis said.
He said his portion is logging and cattle ranching and Steven’s is a morning fishing theme.

“I have a bear and a cub catching a fish and a gentlemen fly fishing,” Davis-Gosling said, “and then we have a pioneer doing some gold panning to capture a little bit of that Cariboo history. Each section is a different portion of the day so every artist has a different portion starting from first thing in the morning to daybreak, going into noon to high noon, going into the evening and then we have a night scene at the end.”
Davis said all the artist started coming together back in 2019 so we’ve had a long time to mix and meld our ideas and our styles.
“It’s been a long progress to get even this far and hopefully by next year we’ll have raised enough money and have enough sponsorship to finish off the rest of the wall.”
The other four artists that are contributing to this piece include Jazmyn Lyons, Tiffany Doering, Sarah Sigurdson and Miss White Spider.
Davis said Tammy Tugnum has been one of the big supporters of this project helping to raise funds.
He said local businesses have also played a big role in getting involved with the mural project and all the paint stores are looking to help donate for paint and supplies as well as the City of Williams Lake and the BIA.
