100 Mile House RCMP investigating reported bear spray incident

Two people were bear sprayed on the 90 block of Highway 97 in South Cariboo.

100 Mile House RCMP Sargeant Brian lamb said just before 1 o’clock on Friday August 15, police attended where it was advised that a male in the passenger seat of a green Volkswagon hatchback with an “N” sign on the back was parked in front of a business.

Lamb said the male was attempting to antagonize a person walking by the vehicle and a minor disagreement ensued.

“The male in the vehicle subsequently produced bear spray and sprayed it in the direction of several bystanders,” Lamb said, “Two people were directly sprayed in the face and the vehicle left the scene with two other occupants.”

The passenger is described as an Indigenous male wearing pit viper sunglasses with a moustache.

The other occupants of the vehicle are described as Indigenous male wearing a fluorescent safety vest and a Caucasian male with grey hair and grey/white beard.

“The persons involved were not known to each other,” Lamb said, “and this appears to be a random incident.

Police are awaiting surveillance footage from the area.
