A man is dead following what RCMP believe is a targeted and gang-related incident in Williams Lake.
Police received a report of a disturbance on Wednesday at a residence in the 1100 block of 2nd Avenue where shots may have been fired inside the house.
Around the same time, RCMP received information that a 20-year-old man had been brought to a local hospital suffering from a gunshot wound. Unfortunately, despite all emergency medical efforts the man succumbed to his injuries at hospital.
The North District Major Crime unit along with the local Forensic Identification Team, the North District Regional General Investigations Section, the Williams Lake General Investigations Section, and Police Dog Services have been called in to assist in this homicide investigation.
In addition to the investigation, the RCMP continues to work with its partners like CFSEU BC and the community to address the issues of gang violence through education and prevention initiatives, in order to help reduce the impact gangs have in our communities.
No further information can be released at this time as the homicide investigation is still in its very early stages.
Anyone with information is asked to contact the RCMP or Crime Stoppers.
