City Recommends Expressing Importance of Mine’s Return to Full Operations

The City of Williams Lake recently passed a recommendation to write a letter to the Premier and appropriate provincial Ministers expressing the importance of Mt. Polley returning to full operations.

Mayor Kerry Cook says although the ongoing investigations are vitally important into what caused the August 4th tailings pond breach, other factors do come into play.

Mt. Polley needs to receive a number of permits from the provincial government before they can return to normal operations after their tailings pond failed and spilled more than 14 million cubic meters of water and mine waste into Quesnel and Polley Lake.

The recommendation has been referred to the Nov. 4 regular Council meeting.
