Celebrating world water day in the Lakecity

March 22nd is recognized as World Water Day.

For people like Brianna Van De Wijngaard  Community Liason for the Cariboo Chilcotin Conservation Society, “every day” is water day.

Their in-school water wise education program focuses on water conservation throughout the year so we asked Wijngaard if the kids are now teaching the parents.

“Yeah we get that feedback that the kids often do bring that home to the parents. Our instructors teach a variety of classes and grades so over time we find that they definitely bring it home and get that feedback from the parents.”

From 2013 to 2015 Wijngaard says Williams Lake has conserved its water by just over twenty percent.

To celebrate World Water Day Williams Lake residents are invited to come out this evening for a free swim from 6:30 to 8:30 at the Cariboo Memorial Recreation Complex.
