Nazko Chief Leah Stump has been appointed to the Board of Directors of Northern Development Initiative Trust.
Northern Development announced Stump’s appointment on June 25. Stump is one of five directors appointed by the Province of B.C. to the Board. She will be filling in a position left by an outgoing director.
“Joining the Northern Development Board is an excellent opportunity to support community resiliency in a new way,” Stump said in the announcement release. “I look forward to sharing lessons I’ve learned while leading Nazko First Nation and learning from other community leaders.”
Stump is serving her third term as Chief of the Nazko First Nation. Before being elected chief in December 2020, Stump was an educator in the Quesnel School District for six years.
She has experience on being a part of a governance team during her time on the boards of Quesnel Shelter and Support Society, and Nenqayni Wellness Centre, and the Cariboo Chilcotin Aboriginal Training Employment Centre.
“We eagerly welcome Leah to her seat at the board table,” said Margo Wagner, Chair of the Northern Development’s Board. “We look forward to working together and learning from Leah’s perspective and experience.”
Chief Stump will join 12 other board members on Northern Development’s governance team, in providing direction for the Trust.
