100 Mile House RCMP reminds the public to protect their personal information and not provide financial transactions unless the source can be verified.
On Sunday June 8, Sargeant Brian Lamb said they received a report of an attempted fraud.
“The complainant was contacted by phone and advised they had won a cash reward in the sum of 4.8 million dollars. The caller who attempted to appear as from a legitimate business advised in order to receive the funds that an administrative payment would be required from the complainant.”
As part of the conversation, personal information was also sought and Lamb said the complainant recognized this an attempt at fraud and reported it.
He said this is a typical example of fraud RCMP receive on a weekly basis.
