BC Community Response Network Sponsoring Special Event For Williams Lake Seniors

An event focused on Emergency Preparedness for Seniors will take place tomorrow in Williams Lake.

Coordinator for the BC Community Response Network, Peggy Christianson said it’s very important for Seniors to attend as they will learn everything from how to stay cool during a heatwave to being prepared in case of an evacuation.

“Service Canada will be there to help put an app on people’s phones so they can register if they are ever evacuated. There will be a sign up for Seniors that may have a disability and are unable to evacuate on their own. This will give the Firemen and Police assistance in locating people who are unable to evacuate themselves as not every Senior has a vehicle.”

Christianson said the Emergency Preparedness for Seniors event is a golden opportunity to come out and learn how to handle these kind of situations.

Several organizations will also be there offering information.

“Canadian Mental Health, Senior Support that helps Seniors navigate through the systems like filling out papers,” Christianson said, “Better at Home will also be there along with All-Nations Healing.”

The Emergency Preparedness for Seniors event will be held at the Williams Lake Seniors Activity Centre tomorrow (Thursday June 12) from 2 til 4.

Cake and coffee will also be served and everyone is welcome to attend.
