Tree Caught Fire Along the Riverfront Trail

The Quesnel Volunteer Fire Department was called to two fires simultaneously Wednesday morning.

A tree along the Riverfront Trail was engulfed in flames. It was located along Front Street across from Tim Horton’s.

The fire burned almost halfway through the tree’s trunk. The tree will need to be felled, and the section of the path will be closed until the afternoon.

Another fire was reported in a dumpster in the alley behind Joe’s Barbershop on Front Street.

Mark Rawlings of the Quesnel Volunteer Fire Department says both the dumpster fire and the tree fire were put out quickly.

The Fire Department suspects the tree caught fire due to a campfire that was left unattended at the base of the tree.

Rawlings says the City of Quesnel had already been called to fell the tree once the Fire Department was finished.
