District Of 100 Mile House Standard Watering Restrictions Begin May 1st

While the Well Redevelopment Project continues the District of 100 Mile is asking residents to be conscience of the use of water.

Staring May first, the District will be implementing standard watering restrictions.

Mayor Maureen Pinkney said they want everyone to be water conscience all the time, not just because we’re re-doing the Wells.

“We are certainly seeing a lot of drought conditions these last few years and moving into the next few that’s sort of what’s predicted and we had low snowpacks this year. We do ask that people conserve water anytime they can, fix the leaks in their home, running toilets, that kind of stuff. And further to that we are redeveloping the Wells we currently use.”

With watering restrictions set to take effect tomorrow (May 1) Pinkey said the District’s normal Summer restrictions usually last the full length of summer provided that these Wells get re-structured the way we hope they will all turn out.

“It will just the the standard watering restrictions but we may end up having to do further ones. The next stage while we’re redeveloping the next Wells from about May 20 to about June 7th we’ll ask for some further restrictions just during that point and time. It’s not advisable for us to only run one Well at a time to keep the water towers full, it’s a little bit too hard on them so we like to run two together. If we have to take one off-line then we just want to be using less water.”

As of tomorrow (Thursday) if you’re an even numbered house you water on even numbered days and odd on odd days from 6 am to 9 am and from 6 pm to 9 pm.

That’s actually pretty generous,” Pinkney said, “There are other areas that only allow you two hours at a time. It’s always brought to our attention the ones that don’t follow the rules so we have a bylaw officer and we will have them go around if we receive complaints or if they notice people watering when they shouldn’t be you’ll be given a warning the first time.”
