The Grace Inn has started to be demolished to make way for new supportive housing.
Excavators and crews began demolishing the old Carson Ave site in Quesnel on Monday, April 28.
Tanya Turner, Director of Development with the City says the plan for two supportive housing buildings has been in the works for some time.
“The City is waiting for a development permit application from BC Housing with the exact design. The plan will be once the buildings are demolished, we will begin development.”
The new supportive housing will have 45 units. 20 of which will be occupied by the people staying at the temporary units near the Grace Inn, as the development is ongoing.
The new housing units will only be one-half of that particular lot. Turner says the City is in early planning conversations with BC Housing about what can be developed on the second half of the lot.
