Interlakes Volunteer Fire Department Open House Saturday April 19th

The Interlakes Volunteer Fire Department will be putting out the welcome this Easter Long Weekend.

On Saturday (April 19) from 10 until 2 they’ll be hosting their Annual Public Open House at the Interlakes Community Hall.

Fire Chief Poul Beer said they have different agencies that will be taking part in this fun event.

“We have BC Wildfire Service and their FireSmart crew, the CRD FireSmart Co-ordinator, Emergency Services, Support Services, RCMP, BC Health Services, members from some of the neighbouring Fire Departments from 100 Mile Fire Rescue and Deka Lake, to mention a few.”

Beer noted that the purpose of these open house’s we have every year is for members of the public to come out and meet some of the people that working really hard to keep us and the community safe.

“We’re going to have a lot of fun activities as well,” Beer said, “we’re going to have some live fire demonstrations, the public will get educated on how to use fire extinguishers. We’ll also have engine tours and you’ll be able to try some firefighting gear on and actually spray some water with some fire hoses and we also have a BBQ by donation and a bottle drive.”

Beer added that will have some swag for the little ones and there’s an onsite playground for them to enjoy as well.

“So come out and meet these people ask the questions that you might have and might not know where to go to for and you get educated while you’re having fun and a hot dog,” Beer said.
