Williams Lake Cariboo Memorial Hospital Redevelopment Project Continues To Progress

“The contractor is currently ahead of schedule as far as the construction activities go on the Cariboo Memorial Hospital Redevelopment Project in Williams Lake.”

Project Manager Brad Mackendrick said everything is progressing towards their completion date for July 2026 with the hopeful opening to the general public in late November that year.

“We’re probably about two-thirds of the way through the construction activity, closer to three-quarters. The main structure is complete, we’re putting on the external finishes on the new extension on the facility so that’s coming into shape. Most of the glazing systems are in place. All the internal walls have been framed up probably about 75 percent to the building.”

Mackendrick noted that a lot of the mechanical systems are being installed, in fact today (April 14) we have some major mechanical equipment being lifted onto the roof.

“Once this current stage is complete, which is the main new facility extension, Interior Health will then spend about 4 months moving in and that then will lead into our opening day which will be scheduled sometime in late 2026 which will be announced a little closer to that date. Then we’ll start doing the Phase 2 which is the renovations of the vacated spaces within the existing facility and that will continue right through to the beginning of 2029.”

Mackendrick said the main facility which is the new Emergency, Inpatient Units, Maternity Units, and Pharmacy, that’s the big feature and that will be coming in about a year and a half from now.

“We’ve been doing some internal tours with some of the staff members who who are associated with the new departments so they can get a feel of what it’s going to be like. We also had a smudging ceremony back on Friday 4.”
