Residents and visitors to 100 Mile House may have noticed a fresh and colourful looking Birch Avenue.
New banners are replacing the current ones that have seen tremendous deterioration due to weather.
Mayor Maureen Pinkney said the banners really showcase either some of the events that are happening or the District’s history.
“Some of the replacement banners have our iconic red coach, one of the last express coaches that there is and the actual physical one is sitting at our Information Centre. These nice colourful banners hopefully will get people to come into our downtown core where Birch Avenue is. They’ll have words on them like experience, explore, enjoy our town and discover things.”
The District said Council previously approved a request from the Pride Society for some of their banners to be placed as well.
The new banners are part of the Visitor Centre’s tourism marketing program and are made of a more durable, weather-resistant material which should last longer than the fabric varieties used in the past.
Pinkney said the District found a home for some of the old banners that are still in good shape.
“We’ll be offering them to our two malls, we have one at each end of the community. They have the posts and rails to be able to put them on. These older banners are still beautiful and have symbols of fishing, forestry, lakes and mountains on them.”
The District said Visitor Centre staff have worked hard to design a fresh new look that authentically reflects our community and shows off Birch Avenue.
