Williams Lake Community Forest gets Prescribed Burn over Weekend

A prescribed burn in the Williams Lake Community Forest has been added to the list of the burn season.

BC Wildfire Services(BCWS), in partnership with the Williams Lake Community Forest and Williams Lake First Nation, will conduct a prescribed burn of roughly seven hectares within the Community Forest on Sunday, April 13.

BCWS says the burn will take place approximately 10 kilometres west of Williams Lake, just north of Sheep Creek Bridge.

The burn’s purpose is to reduce the risk of wildfires in the area.

BCWS says the burn will commence Sunday morning as long as conditions are favourable to allow the smoke to vent.

They caution residents that smoke may be visible from Williams Lake and its surrounding areas, and to motorists traveling along Highway 20.

Firefighters will be on location to monitor the conditions, and the burn will be extinguished by the end of the day; however, the smoke may linger up to 48 hours after ignition and clear slowly.
