Local Government Officials to Be Part of Policing Committee

The City of Williams Lake will be expanding their Police Committee by including local government officials.

Mayor Walt Cobb calls it a good idea.

“While it’s the City that’s doing it and it was one of the recommendations that came out of our policing audit from the province that they felt we needed although we had a committee that had needed to be expanded and maybe include some members of the public, but because of some of the issues in our area we’ve also included some of the First Nation leaders.”

The expanded Committee will include Cobb as Chair, one Councillor and Alternate, one CRD Director and alternate from Area D,E, or F, one First Nation Representative each from the Northern Shuswap Tribal Council and the Carrier Chilcotin Tribal Council, and the leader of a community policing organization.

Cobb says the Executive Committee was and is the City’s current Policing Committee and that the City is already ahead of the Audit’s six recommendations.
